We specialise in ultrasonic Non-Destructive Testing for composite materials, with a current emphasis on Marine and Defence applications.
At Blue Wave NDT, we can apply our methods to small yacht mast inspections of 30' yacht masts through ongoing quality assurance programs for production components. Our marine industry expertise fuels our capability to work across diverse sectors, making us the go-to experts for ultrasonic NDT solutions tailored to any industry's unique demands.
Expertise Across Industries
Marine
Blue Wave NDT was founded on a deep history within the leisure marine industry, particularly the superyacht and grand Prix race yacht sectors. However, we have extensive experience with motor yachts up to 40m and production sailing/motor cruisers.
Blue Wave NDT will work with you to design an inspection strategy that is suitable to your needs, by using techniques that inspect all aspects of your vessel from the top of the masts to the bottom of the keel.
• Mast, spreaders & booms
• Superstructure
• Internal structure
• Hull and deck
• Keel fin (Metal/Carbon)
• Appendages (Daggerboards, rudders, foils, stabilisers)
• Other components e.g. spinnaker pole and bowsprits
Common reasons for inspection include:
• Quality assurance at manufacture
• Pre-purchase survey
• Insurance requirement
• Damage assessment
Aerospace
We use advanced C-scanning to carefully evaluate pre-preg composite parts and create precise reports to assess production quality and ensure operational integrity. Our expertise extends to identifying defects and damage whilst monitoring for in-service issues.
Leveraging our technical experience from the Marine sector and utilising aerospace procedures, we can evaluate all aspects of aerospace composite structures, including monolithic and foam or honeycomb cored materials and bonded components.
Powergen
Composite materials are extensively used in the Powergen sector, particularly in renewable energy. These materials are used in wind blades, tidal turbines, and tether cables. Blue Wave NDT's inspection and recording methods have been utilised during the R&D stages of tidal power units, and we are currently in talks about using our techniques on wind turbine units.
Blue Wave NDT has specialised knowledge and specific equipment for inspecting carbon fibre cables, which may be used as tethers or support stays. These techniques have been honed from using carbon fibre cables in the leisure marine industry, where they support yacht masts.
Defense
At Blue Wave NDT, we are proud to highlight our partnership with MacTaggart Scott & Co Ltd, a key player in the Defense industry. They have entrusted us with their composite NDT needs due to our unparalleled ability to deliver detailed analysis and ensure the integrity of components used in challenging sub-sea environments. Our in-depth knowledge and expert handling of complex constructions have been instrumental in enhancing the quality of MacTaggart Scott's products.
Through precise and unambiguous reporting, we have helped them identify and resolve potential issues early in the manufacturing process. We appreciate the ongoing trust MacTaggart Scott places in our services and are committed to accommodating their dynamic schedule with utmost flexibility and support.
